In our first class, I was joined by Mike, a long time friend and student in the blade arts. Frankly, we found the warm ups challenging. Not so much from breathing or shortness of breath, but definitely in flexibility. We went into different stretches for the neck, back, sides, low back and hamstrings.For me, the black flexibility was definitely an issue.
Following the stretching, we worked on a series of leg and core activities. Hard to imagine at one time in my youth, I had been a black belt in tae kwon do and able to kick head height! I was having trouble picking my knees and legs up and the exercises were tiring. Fortunately, Shifu Gomez, was understanding, but encouraging, and somehow we survived it! We need work on flexibility for sure and core activity!
